Hello,

I’m Jasna, founder of Sweden for Beginners.

In Slavic languages, Jasna means "clear"—and clarity is my trademark. I value simplicity, directness, and fast-paced challenges. I laugh easily, stay playful, and regularly blow my own mind.

Before Sweden, I had lived in several countries, but this one was a tough nut to crack. Language alone wasn't enough; the unwritten social rules were the real challenge. I dove deep—reading books, watching documentaries, traveling top to bottom, and talking with locals. Yet, the gap remained.

It was intercultural studies that finally unlocked the code.

Now, I use that blueprint to help newcomers adapt faster. Whether you came here to live, love, or work, if you want to master the language basics, navigate the local environment, and integrate into the Scandinavian way of life—you’re in the right place.

Here's what our clients say:

“We can't thank our incredible mentor enough for the tremendous support and guidance provided to our teenage son. She helped him (and us!) navigate the Swedish school system smoothly during his transition from school to hockey training, first in Stockholm and then in Umeå. As a family from Slovenia, we were initially worried about the challenges he might face in a foreign country, but Jasna's expertise and dedication made all the difference. Our son successfully adapted to a new environment, made lasting friendships, and achieved remarkable progress both academically and in his hockey career."

Živa and Rok Rakun from Ljubljana, Slovenia

"I’m a structural steel design engineer in search of work possibilities in Sweden: Jasna gave me a much clearer understanding of the Swedish work landscape and boosted my confidence in my job search. She provided plenty of concrete advice and specialized resources tailored to my field. Her encouragement and expertise fuelled my determination to immerse myself in Swedish culture and improve my communication skills. Now I’m learning Swedish and can’t wait for the next step in my career!"

Frano V. from Zagreb, Croatia

"If you are seeking an experienced and engaging expert to help you understand the Swedish language and culture, consider Jasna. I have got an overall understanding of Swedish life. Lessons were intellectually stimulating with lots of laughter. Thank you for that!"

Jana R. from Munich, Germany

Is culture shock a real deal?

Cultural shock is a phenomenon, a pattern in which a person has negative reactions upon contact with another culture. It's not a superficial assessment or feeling as an outsider. It’s much, much more, and it shouldn't be underestimated.

The #Swedengate story

#Swedengate became a trending topic after internet users discovered that Swedes often do not feed their house guests. This revelation sparked a heated online debate about Swedish hospitality.
